Prey by Alfredsson Prey by Alfredsson
No long story for this one, at least not for the moment. The short version goes like this: The cheetah grow sick of beeing harassed by a never ending stream of tourists with their fancy cameras, sabotaging his hunt for food. So what does a cheetah do, he adapt to the situation and go after new prey, the kind of prey that over the years has lost the well earned respect for predators like him.

-----------------------

Image created using Lightwave 3D and Photoshop, as usual. I'm not satisfied with the composition, grass or background, but I've had enough of this one now. I wanted to create an evil looking cheetah and that part I'm happy with, so now it's time to start thinking about the next image. Wonder what it will be this time...

Holycrap.

I saw this pic in someone's faves and i was like :o "I must go see!"
At first I thought this was a photo. I didn't even notice the mauled human body till after I read the description. And the bones in the background :faint:

Amazing work! It just looks so real! :eyepopping:

=OO when it was loading, i thought it was a photo! It is VERY realistic!! and me, having cheetahs as my favourite animals, can say that your anatomy is PERFECT, but the face is a little strange (it looks maybe a little to long, or maybe make it a little more broad? x3).. the background and the fur looks like its going to come out of the screen and feel like real fur/blades of grass!! EXCELLENT work! I also love the paws and claws.. one other detail which doesnt really matter is that cheetahs usually have a little bit of a white tipped tail, but it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! :silentkitty:

I love your art.. i hope you dont mind if i watch you ^-^ -adds to faves-

An extrememly nice painting... but if any species of non-human were to kill humans they would most certainly get hunted to extinction within just a few months.

:spotlight-left: LightWave? I got LightWave and I can't make anything like that yet. :spotlight-right:
Got to know. Did you use sasquatch for the furr and grass?
IF so. What was the furr Density %, Length Vary %, Coarseness %, and Object Size in m
And Did you use Weight maps or UV maps for it.
Any way this looks grate. Cant wate to get the setings right for my models. :meditate:
There are so many setings for sasquatch alone never mind The model witch is another mater. :frustrated:
Looks like you got it down thou. :worship:

Yep, used Sasquatch. No idea about the settings though, I fiddles with the numbers until the stuff looked right. I UVmapped it, no weightmaps. Did as much as possible with the colormaps, so most of the fur settings comes from textures, which makes things look more logical I think. Also, I used 3 instances of Sasquatch, one base layer with short dense fur, then 2 additional for variation and longer hair.

Cool That helps a lot. I will half to try to work more UV maps into my models.
As what I have herd from others and you that seams to work the best. And the
results shows.
I have been using weightmaps and colormaps. Easer to set up but results not so good.
Weightmaps and colormaps might be OK for like a simple skunk but not much with such
detale as yours. I will keep that in mind.

How do you get that perfect non 3d look?
Reply
:iconalfredsson:
Alfredsson Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2006
Dunno if the look is perfect, but at least I try to make it look non-3d. Most of that work is simply done in Photoshop, in 2D. I render out the image from my 3D program, then I spend lots of time adjusting the look, painting details, playing with layer modes until I get the result I want. Lots of fun.

overall quite a nice rendering, it's not photorealistic, but the mood, and the evil look if the cheetah comes across  the only thing I'd like to see changed is the grass I think, it's too harsh, some softening or slight overpainting might help there. other than that, well done =)
